Frequently Asked Questions
If you don’t see your question below, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.
What does DEFRA Type 2 mean?
DEFRA Type 2 is a licensing classification for commercial animal transport that covers longer journeys and higher welfare standards than basic local transport. It means our vehicles and procedures meet national requirements for ventilation, secure containment, rest breaks, and staff training. For you, this translates to safer, more comfortable journeys and fewer surprises at borders.
What documents are needed?
Required documents depend on the destination country and whether you're travelling from the UK post‑Brexit. Common requirements include:
- Microchip registration (ISO 11784/11785 compliant)
- Up-to-date primary vaccinations (e.g., rabies where required) and certificates
- EU pet passport or country-specific health certificate
- Any additional export/import permits or tests (depends on destination)
We handle route-specific checks for you — when you request a quote, tell us the departure and destination countries and we'll list the exact documents and timing required.
Can you transport different types of pets?
We routinely transport dogs and cats and have specialised equipment and experience for them. For other small domestic animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, small birds), we evaluate on a case-by-case basis — we consider welfare, crate requirements, and whether the animal can safely travel the requested route. For larger or exotic species we may not be able to help; please contact us with full details (species, size, health) and we’ll advise.
How long does a typical booking take?
After you submit an enquiry we normally respond within 24–48 hours with a quote and an available window. The total time from enquiry to travel depends on travel documents — some routes require health checks or a waiting period after vaccinations. We’ll flag any time-sensitive steps when we provide your quote so you can plan ahead.
